HGH and Its Off-Label Uses

Human growth hormone (HGH), produced by the pituitary gland, spurs growth in children and adolescents. It also helps to regulate body composition, body fluids, muscle and bone growth, sugar, fat metabolism, and possibly heart function. HGH is what helps you grow and what keeps you young.

Produced synthetically, HGH is the active ingredient in several prescription drugs and in other products available on the Internet.  It was developed in 1985 and is approved by the FDA for specific uses in children and adults. In adults, approved uses of HGH include:

  • Short bowel syndrome.
  • HGH deficiency due to rare pituitary tumors or their treatment.
  • Muscle-wasting disease associated with HIV/AIDS.

But the most common uses for HGH are not FDA-approved. Many people use the hormone off-label for anti-aging.  Others turn to HGH in hopes that it will keep them feeling and looking youthful.  Because the body’s HGH levels decrease with age, anti-aging experts have speculated that HGH products could reverse age-related bodily deterioration.

The benefits of HGH therapy include:

  • Increases your ability to exercise and live an active lifestyle.
  • Helps you gain muscle mass as well as slow down its deterioration due to aging.
  • Helps the regrowth of hair.
  • Improves your productivity, mood, concentration, sleeping, and memory.
  • Enhance the metabolic process and the immune system.
  • Speed up bone regeneration and healing. It also improves your bone strength.
  • Decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases and be an effective treatment of kidney disease.
  • Increases collagen production to make the skin stronger and improve skin quality.
